Accredited Courses
The Parramatta College is a Registered Training Organisation, offering a range of accredited vocational training in English language, literacy courses. Our National Provider Number is 90276. Courses are open to adults who pay fees and meet course pre-requisites.
Pre-requisites
Some of our courses have pre-requisites – skills or knowledge you need to have to be able to do the class. Sometimes we will ask for evidence that you meet the pre-requisite - perhaps a skill, knowledge or certain citizenship status.
Sometimes we don’t ask for evidence, but the course is conducted assuming you meet the pre-requisite. For example, computer courses might be listed in the course guide with a statement like “Before you enrol you must be able to: …”. If you can’t perform the listed tasks confidently, you shouldn’t enrol in the course.
Certificates
Most of our accredited ‘courses’ are really modules or units of competency from Certificate qualifications. If assessed as competent, students are issued with:
Assessment
At the beginning of the course, we will tell you how you will be assessed. The College follows the assessment guidelines set out in the Australian Quality Training Framework to make sure assessments are valid, reliable, flexible and fair.
Assessments should take your needs into account. For example, if you have a disability or literacy problems and need a scribe, talk to your trainer. We cannot provide a scribe for you, but we can make allowances for your needs in the assessment.
Mutual Recognition
The Parramatta College recognises Statements of Attainment and Certificates issued by other Registered Training Organisations (RTO). This means, for example, that if you have achieved part of a qualification at another RTO, and you want to complete the qualification, we must recognise the Statements or Certificates you present to us. We may, however, want to verify that they are legitimate.
Recognition (RPL)
You may be able to get credit for previous study, experience or work skills. You will need to provide evidence against the workplace competencies or learning outcomes. If you feel you have the necessary skills and experience to claim RPL please contact the College for more information on 9687 2072 or Email Us.
Appeals
You have 3 months from the date of your assessment to appeal against your assessment result. To lodge an appeal, contact your Program Manager or the Principal for an Assessment Appeal form. An independent assessor will contact you within 7 days after we receive the completed form from you. The independent assessor will discuss your appeal and, if appropriate, negotiate reassessment. You will get written feedback on your appeal.
Student Records
We keep student records for accredited courses for 30 years. Students can look at their own records by prior arrangement with the College. Other people, apart from College administrative staff, can look at the records only with written permission from the student.
Trainer Qualifications
Course curricula and training packages set out the minimum qualifications and experience that trainers must have. All our trainers have at least the minimum qualifications needed. We run staff development training at least twice a year to keep trainers up to date as adult educators. Most of our trainers have current industry experience because they work in the industry in which they train.
