Creative Writing - Continuing and more experienced writers

Suitable for aspiring authors who have produced a substantial draft of a fiction or non-fiction work. This course is designed for those who wish to enrich their understanding of the way language is used to shape meaning. This course will equip students with the capacity to critically evaluate their language choices, structure their writing and to reflect on their authorial direction. This course is also suitable for students who have completed the beginners course at Parramatta College or an equivalent writing course by another provider.

• Effective world building
• Character- looking specifically at inner and outer landscapes in texts
• Critical analysis of TWO featured authors
• Style and voice
• Writing Craft: Point of View, Tense, Showing & Telling, Specificity & Clarity, Common Mistakes.
• Submitting Your Work for Publication and Working with an Editor
• Helpful Resources for Writers
• Q & A throughout on anything writing-related.

COURSE OUTCOMES
To refine students' writing styles and extend their knowledge of creative writing to create sustained, compelling and sophisticated works of fiction and/or non-fiction.

SKILL PREREQUISITE
Students must have a developed understanding of narrative form with a clear focus and direction for their own creative composition.
