Friday Night Flix - Aussie Classics Films

Exploring the history of our film industry, we’ll be checking out some Aussie classics. Australia created the world’s first feature film in 1906 and this was the beginning of our fabulous silent film era.

But this story is not one of steady progress but of boom and bust and it was only in the 1970s that the “film renaissance” relaunched our film industry, allowing us to see ourselves on screen once more. In this session we will look at all we’ve achieved in the last 120 years, revisiting some great films, exploring why they are significant in expressing who we are, and why we so rarely watch our own films, no matter how good they are.
