First Aid in Education & Care Setting HLTAID012

 

This unit HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting is designed to provide skills and knowledge required to perform first aid to infants and children as well as providing additional training especially in areas of asthma and anaphylaxis specific to the childcare industry and other child focused organisations as well as Parents and carers of young children.  On successful completion of this course, participants will learn: 

  • Respond to emergency situations - choking, bleeding, fractures, sprains
  • Shock
  • Identifying hazards & risks
  • Infections control
  • Acute illnesses in children and infants
  • First aid procedures
  • How to perform CPR on adults, children & infants
  • Usage of an AED
  • First aid principles
  • Anaphylaxis risk management
  • Asthma risk management
  • Caring for a casualty & monitoring condition
  • First aid resources
  • Administering medication
  • Duty of care
  • Reporting & communicating incident details
  • Confidentiality
  • Psychological first aid (PFA)
  • Stress management techniques & support

CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) procedures are based on the ARC (Australian Resuscitation Council) guidelines. This unit is required for all workers and volunteers who are working in education and care setting, including pre-schools, childcare centre’s, Schools, and OOSH Centres and other child focused organisations such as youth groups and social activities.  

The course is delivered by a qualified industry skilled trainer  at  our Western Sydney Skills Hub 410 Church St, Level 3, Suite 34, at North Parramatta .

FOR  GROUP BOOKINGS ON SITE OF YOUR PREFERENCE

Whilst there are no prerequisites for this course, it is expected that you have adequate language, literacy and numeracy skills and computer skills to be able to interact with peers, trainers and completing the theory assessment  on line via MOODLE.  You will also need to be physically fit enough to perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR on the floor.

Delivery Strategies
The practical component of this course is delivered via face to face in a classroom environment with a qualified and skilled trainer.  The theory must be completed on line via MOODLE prior to the practical class.  Learning strategies include role play, demonstrations, lectures, and classroom activities etc.  The practical class is a 5 hour course. 

Assessment Strategies
The assessments involve a variety of activities including knowledge questions, demonstration of performance, and observations.  All participants will be supported by our qualified and skilled team throughout their learning journey.

Please arrive 15minutes prior to scheduled class as late arrivals will not be admitted.

Cost:  Fee for service $145.00

Competency outcome
On successful completion of the course, you will be awarded with a Statement of Attainment quoting the relevant units of competencies from above.
